I can't seem to get the hange of the circular ones. my friend tried to show me how to do a figure 8 with them when the pattern for say a hat starts to decrease and you need it smaller. I am practicing though.

Gypsie, It's really not as hard to do as you think. I posted to links below , I hope they help. If not please go to your local LYS and ask for help with them. You'll see it's easy to master if some one that knows how to use them can show you. I use them all the time now, sor sweaters and socks . Youtube is a great place to go for visual aid for all knitting questions. Knittinghelp.com is another super great site for all knitting question as well and they have video clips to watch .

Let me know how you do, if you have any questions , please feel free to ask me. I am in between a beginner and intermediate knitter myself , but I'll help if I can. You really need to learn to use circulars, it will come in handy for so many projects.

I purchased my circular set from Knit Pick , I found after buying two other sets that Knit Pick was the best IMHO.
